Cold Tsunami: the second before the wave lands

Cold Tsunami is a winter perfume by Posh Stink: ozone, frozen mint, cannabis leaf, fresh snow and ambergris, in a single batch of 300 numbered bottles.

The story

A wave arrives before you hear it: a wall of cold air that crackles with static, sharp as frozen mint. In winter the spray never reaches the shore as water; it freezes in mid-air and falls as snow on black rock. Cold Tsunami is the second before it lands.

Most winter perfumes go warm: vanilla, amber, spice by the fire. Cold Tsunami goes the other way, into the cold itself, and it is built to feel like the first breath outside on a freezing morning.

Top notes: ozone, frozen mint and sea spray

The opening of Cold Tsunami is electric. Ozone gives the smell of air after a storm, and the marine side of it belongs to a family of materials that changed perfumery: Calone, discovered by Pfizer in 1966, gave fragrances their sea-breeze note from the 1980s onwards.

Frozen mint makes the cold physical, the way mint feels cold on the tongue, and sea spray adds salt. The first minutes of Cold Tsunami are the sharpest of the four Posh Stink fragrances.

Heart notes: cannabis leaf, snow and cold metal

The heart of Cold Tsunami is green and resinous. Cannabis leaf in perfume is a scent accord, not a drug: a fresh, slightly bitter green with a hint of pepper, the smell of a crushed leaf rather than smoke.

Fresh snow softens it with a clean, powdery note, and cold metal gives the mineral edge of a railing in the frost. Together they hold the cold for hours on the skin.

Base notes: ambergris, petrichor and white musk

The base of Cold Tsunami is the shore after the wave. Ambergris, aged for years by the ocean, brings salt and warmth; petrichor, the smell of rain on dry stone, keeps it earthy.

White musk closes it like clean skin under a wool scarf. Cold Tsunami is the only one of the 4 fragrances that ends warmer than it starts.
